Don’t sleep on your stomach
A lot of people do not realize this, but sleeping on your stomach can cause a lot of different kinds of pains to the body. If you sleep on your stomach, it causes a lot of pressure on your spine’s muscles and joints because it flattens the natural curve of the spine. This can cause lumbar regions of your spine or lower back to forcefully extend beyond its limits. Sleeping on your stomach also forces you to turn your neck, which can cause neck and upper back pain.
Role of Mattresses
The mattress that you sleep on also has a huge role in the way you sleep and the way your body has to adjust to it. The mattresses provide different kinds of support to your body which determines that if you have a wrong mattress, it can cause severe back pain for some people. A mattress that provides comfort and back support can reduce back pains. Firm mattresses can help alleviate back pain by distributing the body’s weight more equally and supporting spinal alignment. This may also increase the chances of you having a good sleep.
Side sleeping
This might be the most common way of sleeping but can also be a reason for your back pains. Sleeping with your legs bent upwards is less ideal for your back. It is also known as the fetal position. It promotes an uneven distribution of weight that can cause back pain and sore joints.
Best sleeping position
For the majority of the population, the best position for sleeping is on your left, curling your legs and placing a pillow between your knees. This position can ease any back pain and prevent loud snoring. There can be different kinds of positions that might work for different people if they already suffer from back and neck pains. Consultation with your doctors, talking about your situation and taking advice on changing the habits of how you sleep is always the best option.
